Dylan Bland- The Coach

Our coach is a dedicated and competitive curler who has achieved remarkable success, including winning a U5 silver medal. With a wealth of experience and a passion for the sport, they have been instrumental in coaching the junior women’s team for the U18 category over the past year. Under their guidance, the girls made it to the national championships last year, showcasing their exceptional skills and teamwork. Their expertise, combined with their ability to inspire and mentor young athletes, has significantly contributed to the team's development and achievements.

Karina Treynor- The Skip

Attending Nationals in 2024 marked a pivotal moment in my life, immersing me in an atmosphere of excellence and sportsmanship. This experience ignited a newfound determination within me, driving me to intensify my training efforts. In the five months following Nationals, I dedicated myself to improvement, hitting the ice more than 100 times, participating in seven bonspiels, and winning two first-place finishes. Despite limited junior-specific opportunities, I committed to four weekly leagues, mostly with adults, and subbed in other leagues as much as possible. These endeavors expanded my network and deepened my appreciation for the spirit of curling.

Krisha Umashankar- The Vice

I started curling a little over 2 years ago with no experience or prior knowledge whatsoever. I was just a curious kid who admired the sport for its unique dynamic, but the thing that really stuck out to me was the kindness and sportsmanship that was unparalleled to any sport I had exposure to. Seeing the spirit of curling at the competitive level, has made me love it even more than when I started. Since the 2024 U18 Nations, my performance has gotten better and inspired me to keep learning and improving. Not to mention the friendships I have made with new teams as well as strengthening ones on my own. Playing at the next U18’s this year would give me an opportunity to show my hard work and progress as well as play with some of the best youth athletes in the country.

Violet Bartels -The Second

Curling has shaped my dedication and perseverance since I began playing two years ago. The friendly atmosphere and constant opportunities for improvement have captivated me. Competing at the Youth Olympic Playdowns last fall deepened my commitment to teamwork and sportsmanship. Since September 2023, I've focused on enhancing my skills through multiple leagues and bonspiels, achieving notable successes, including a 2nd place in our state tournament. My efforts have sharpened my abilities, expanded my network, and strengthened my communication skills. Moving forward, I am committed to representing MOPAC with honor and dedication, embodying the spirit of curling. Despite being an out-of-region player, I approach this role with the highest responsibility.

Alexis Kong- The Lead

My curling journey began as an inside joke with my father but quickly turned into a passion after joining the San Francisco Bay Area Curling Club. Within six months, I attended my first summer curling camp in Chaska, Minnesota, where I met Pat McDonald from MoPac. Inspired by Pat, we formed an under-18 girls' team and began practicing diligently, leading to our participation in the USA Curling U18 2024 event. This experience fueled our commitment, and we founded Curlofulgirls.org to promote women of color in curling. Despite aging out, the team spirit remains strong through new members and rekindled friendships, such as with Violet. My dedication continues with regular league participation and attending Pat’s camp again this July. Thus, my curling journey has come full circle, driven by passion and community.

Srihasini Malladi -The Lead

Two years ago, I started curling as a fun way to spend time with friends. However, as I spent more time on the ice, my passion for the sport deepened, and my desire to improve grew stronger. I dedicated as much time as possible to studying the sport and refining my skills, both on and off the ice. Participating in leagues helped me expand my sportsmanship and enhance my competitive spirit. In January 2024, my teammates and I had the honor of competing in the 2024 Junior Nationals. Witnessing the talent and skill level of all the players at Nationals only intensified my immersion in the sport. We left with more knowledge and a desire to improve every aspect of our game. Given the opportunity to participate in the next Nationals would be an immense honor, and I am committed to bringing forth my best performance.

About Last Year

For the team members who had the immense privilege of representing MoPac at the 2024 U18 Nationals, it was an experience that left a profound impact on each of us. We are a passionate and dedicated group, driven by a shared desire to learn, grow, and elevate our competitive prowess on the national stage.
What makes our team unique is not only our collective passion for curling but also our diversity. As the sole team at the U18 Nationals in 2024 comprised predominantly of people of color, we see ourselves as trailblazers, poised to redefine the future of the sport. Our aspiration is not only to excel on the ice but also to serve as role models for underrepresented demographics in curling. We aim to inspire others and showcase the rich tapestry of diversity within our sport.
